Pri-Med Workshop - "NICE" in Diabetes Management, Birmingham

Tuesday, 08 September 2009

Pri-Med Educational Programmes was proud to launch the first “NICE” Workshop in Diabetes Management in London on 25th November 2008. Following the success of the meeting in 2008, Pri-Med decided to launch the event in Birmingham in 2009. The meeting was chaired by Professor Jiten Vora, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital

The event invited 75 GPs and nurses from practices across Birmingham, with a special interest in Diabetes Management to participate in a workshop style event. The event gave delegates the opportunity to share expertise, ask questions of the experts and debate case studies in a smaller, more intimate setting. The workshop was a huge success with the day opening with a presentation from Professor Jiten Vora, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, providing an insightful clarification of the NICE guidelines on Diabetes Management. Dr Martin Hadley Brown then presented a provocative talk on the Meeting the Challenges of QOF. Dr Marc Evans, Consultant Diabetologist, Llandough Hospital, Cardiff, then presented an insightful presentation entitled “What Next After Metformin?” In the afternoon, delegates enjoyed an opportunity to debate case studies emailed to them prior to the course.

The day was finished off with an engaging and insightful session by the workshop facilitators, who summed up how to take what they had learnt that day and put it into practice.
