Pri-Med Clinical Insight - Best Practice in Cardiology

Best Practice in Cardiology invited UK cardiologists to a one-day forum on recent advances and future best practice in diagnosis and therapy of heart disease. The programme was created by an advisory board of leading UK cardiologists and was delivered by a speaking faculty of acknowledged experts in each of the specialist areas of cardiac medicine under discussion.
Over 170 cardiologists and GPs with a special interest in cardiology attended the launch of Pri-Med Clinical Insight – Best Practice in Cardiology. The meeting was chaired by Dr Sanjay Sharma, Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Heart Muscle Diseases, King's College London, and delegates in attendance were treated to 13 educational sessions, including:
- Guidance on Making a Functional ‘Working’ Diagnosis of Heart Failure, presented by Professor Martin Cowie, Professor of Cardiology, Imperial College London and Consultant Cardiologist, Royal Brompton Hospital, London
- Hard-to-Control Hypertension presented by Dr Neil Chapman, Consultant Physician, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
- Drug Selection in Acute Heart Failure and Chronic Heart Failure presented by Professor John Cleland, Professor of Cardiology, University of Hull
- Management of Stable Angina presented by Professor John Camm, Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiac & Vascular Sciences, St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London
- MRI and Coronary CT Angiography – Latest evidence-based applications of imaging modalities presented by Dr Charles Peebles, Consultant Cardiac Radiologist, Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre, Southampton General Hospital
- Heart Disease in Pregnancy presented by Dr Catherine Nelson-Piercy, Consultant Obstetric Physician, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Foundation Trust and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare Trust
- Medical Management of Atrial Fibrilation presented by Professor John Camm, Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiac & Vascular Sciences, St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London
- AF Ablation - Identifying and selecting patients for intervention presented by Dr Richard Schilling, Consultant Cardiologist, St Bartholomew’s and The London Heart and Chest Centre, London
- Primary Angioplasty for Acute STEMI: Risks and Benefits presented by Dr Jim McLenachan, Clinical Director of Cardiology, Leeds General Infirmary
- Device Therapy in HF - Risk Stratification and Device Selection presented by Dr Jay Wright, Consultant Cardiologist, The Cardiothoracic Centre, Liverpool NHS Trust
